NoviFlow SDN Proof-of-concept Project Proposal Selected by CENGN

Project to Showcase MPLS Layer 2 VPN Solution with OpenFlow-based Customer Premise Equipment

NoviFlow Inc., a leading provider of high-performance OpenFlow-based switching solutions, today announced that its proposal for an advanced Software Defined Networking (SDN) proof-of-concept has been selected for implementation by CENGN, Canada's Centre of Excellence in Next Generation Networks, a consortium of industry leaders dedicated to accelerating the commercialization of next generation communications solutions.

NoviFlow is a Montreal-based company created as a spin-out from UQÀM (the Université du Québec à Montréal). Since its founding three years ago, NoviFlow has become a pioneer in the SDN industry and a global leader in high-performance OpenFlow forwarding planes, providing both standalone switches and licensing its switching software for use in other vendors' SDN networking equipment. Marketed via a diverse range of channel partners spanning several dozen countries in North America, Asia Pacific and Europe, NoviFlow's goal is to bring the benefits of SDN solutions to network carriers, data center operators and enterprises.

"This project will be a major showcase of Canadian innovation in networking technology," says Dominique Jodoin, President and CEO of NoviFlow. "Hosting this project at CENGN will provide NoviFlow with international visibility, as well as make available to us all the infrastructure elements needed to convincingly demonstrate complex SDN solutions in a realistic network environment."

The proof-of-concept will show how OpenFlow can use an IP/MPLS core network to transparently link Layer 2 VPNs. Benefits include faster packet forwarding compared to traditional routers, reduced operational costs due to fewer visits to customer premises thanks to remote configurations and customer self-provisioning, and easy integration with other SDN based network services such as firewalls, load balancing, service chaining, content filtering, access control lists, and more.

The NoviFlow project is sponsored by TELUS, one of CENGN's Tier 1 members.

"There is clear demand for Software Defined Networking and Network Functions Virtualization equipment from organizations of all sizes around the globe," said Walter Miron, director of Technology Strategy at TELUS. "We are proud to support this initiative to help bolster homegrown innovation and build a strong Canadian SDN ecosystem at CENGN."

According to Ritch Dusome, President and CEO of CENGN, "We've seen an increasing demand for a venue where multi-vendor hardware and software components, as well as the systems and technology know-how, are brought together to deliver the capabilities and performance needed by intensive, leading-edge SDN applications. We are excited to be able to leverage CENGNs state-of-the -art physical and virtualized platform, tools and technology expertise to provide NoviFlow with an SDN PoC and international showcase for their Switching product."

You can meet NoviFlow and see live demonstrations of our innovative SDN solutions at NoviFlow's booth at the Open Networking Summit in Santa Clara, CA, June 16th to 18th, 2015. For more information on how to purchase NoviFlow products, please visit: noviflow.com/sales.
